THE MUSEUMS ACQUISITION AND DISPOSAL POLICY 2002-2007

1. The Executive Member has considered the draft Collecting (Acquisitions and Disposal) Policy for the Museums Service 2002-2007 which is a fundamental policy of the Museums Service. It determines which collections are sought to develop museum functions and also defines the legal and ethical standards needed to maintain the proper standards of stewardship, trusteeship and public accountability. It is a requirement of the Council for Museums, Libraries and Archives, as a standard of museum registration, that the County Council, as governing body of the Museums Service, reviews the collecting policy at least every five years.

2. A copy of the full document has been placed in the Members' Rooms.

RECOMMENDATION:

That the Collecting (Acquisitions and Disposal) Policy for the Museums Service 2002-2007 be adopted.
