ANNUAL POLICING PLAN 2002/03
1. Under the terms of the Police Act 1996, the Authority has adopted its Annual Policing Plan for 2002/03. The Act states that the Authority must publish a Plan which sets out the policing priorities for the year ahead and informs the public of the services they can expect from their police force.
2. The Annual Policing Plan reflects the clear priorities of the Force as articulated in the Hampshire Constabulary Strategic Plan. These include reducing the fear of crime, making public places safer, detecting major crime and reducing the number of road casualties and the level of violent crime.
3. Also included are objectives set by the Home Office in the form of ministerial priorities as well as local objectives decided by the Authority. In deciding on these local objectives, the Authority has consulted widely within the two Counties in order that they reflect the wishes of local communities.
4. In addition, the Plan contains the Authority's Best Value Plan and sets out its Efficiency Plan in response to the Home Secretary's annual requirement for the police service to demonstrate how it will achieve efficiency gains equivalent to 2% of annual expenditure.
5. A copy of the published document will be circulated to all members of the County Council in due course.
