TALENTED YOUNG PEOPLE IN SPORT - FINANCIAL HARDSHIP

1. The Leader has approved a fund of £10,000 per year to help talented young people in sport to compete at county, national or international level, where the person with parental responsibility is experiencing financial hardship.

2. The fund will support travel and competition expense and is intended to help young people to reach their full potential. The only other funds which are available nationally, supports elite international performers, the County's fund however will help grass root young sportsmen and women to reach such standards.

3. From the beginning of April 2002, application forms will be sent to all schools, sports associations, and local authority Sports Development Officers in Hampshire. Young people of school age whose parents live in Hampshire will then be able to apply for financial assistance. Applicants must be involved in competitive sport above district level, and requests will need to be supported by the school, coach, or relevant sports association.
