REPORT OF THE

HAMPSHIRE FIRE AND RESCUE AUTHORITY

COPNOR FIRE STATION AND B DIVISION HEADQUARTERS

1. Following the review of fire cover in the Copnor area, the Authority has voted against the Chief Fire Officer's recommendation to close Copnor Fire Station and to transfer existing operational personnel and appliances to Southsea Fire Station.

2. In making this decision the Authority had in mind the strong opposition expressed by local residents and the extent of the consultation process within the area of Portsmouth affected. However, Members paid tribute to the Chief Fire Officer and his staff for the professional way in which they had dealt with this matter.

3. The Chief Fire Officer is to prepare a report to the next meeting of the Authority in May 2002 on the implications and way forward as a result of the above decision.
