Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service have agreed to take on the Prince's Trust Volunteers' franchise for the Southampton area, based in the Community Room at C54 St Mary's Fire Station. | ||

Background | ||

The Home Office (DTLR) Thematic Review "Making a Difference" action point 12 recommends that: authorities not currently involved in Fire Service's Youth Training Association and Prince's Trust Volunteers should undertake a review of their current community programmes to see if introduction of such partnership schemes would add value to Community Fire Safety. | ||

The Home Office (DTLR) Expectations Document states that: the brigade will not achieve its aims on its own and partnerships with a wide variety of organisation and groups both voluntary and professional are essential to Community Fire Safety. | ||

The Prince's Trust Volunteers Programme | ||
3.1 |
The Prince's Trust Volunteers scheme is the Prince's Trust's leading personal development and training programme helping unemployed and employed 16-25 year olds develop motivation and life skills through team work in the community. | ||

The franchise will be delivered in partnership with the Hampshire Police and the YMCA, who will provide Team and Assistant Team Leaders. Discussions are taking place with other potential partners including Southampton Football Club. | ||

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service will recruit a Group Leader for the franchise at Sub Officer or equivalent non operational staff level who will co-ordinate the work of the teams and will also lead alternate teams. This post will exist only as long as funding remains. | ||

We will recruit and run the first team commencing June 2002. | ||

Financial Implications |
The programme is fully funded by the Learning and Skills Council at a cost of £50,000 per annum. There will be additional administration costs which can be contained within existing budgets. | |
