Personal Development Grants

Report of the Chief Executive

Contact: Louise Pickford - Ext 7355

1 At a meeting with the Executive Member for Policy and Resources last year, requests were received from four young people seeking financial assistance towards their participation in a scout jamboree in Thailand in December 2002. At that time it was agreed to defer these requests and all future requests, until April this year when the new budget would be in place in view of severe constraints on the 2001/02 budget. Since then a further eleven requests have been received for the same project. It is envisaged that more requests will be submitted from young people up until the time of departure.

In view of the current number of requests for this jamboree and the possibility of future grant applications, it is recommended that a grant of an appropriate sum be awarded to Scouting in Hampshire to distribute to the following young people undertaking the Scout Jamboree in Thailand in December 2002 and that no future requests for this project be accepted.
