1 Summary
This report suggests a process whereby Members of the Standards Committee may suggest items to be considered by the Committee.
2. Background
2.1 After discussion with the Chairman he has suggested that the Committee should consider adopting a procedure that will allow greater flexibility on the part of Members to raise issues of concern to them relevant to the Committee's role and thereby stimulate the Committee's role in promoting higher standards of conduct within the Authority. The suggested procedure is as follows.
2.2 Members of the Committee may at any time request the Clerk to include an issue for the next meeting of the Committee. The issue raised by the Member will be included as a line item on the agenda of the Committee, provided sufficient advance notice is given. If sufficient notice is not given to achieve this, then the item will be raised verbally at the meeting by the Clerk.
2.3 The Committee will then discuss whether or not the item raised by the individual Member should be the subject of a full report by the appropriate Officer. If this is the decision of the Committee, the expectation will be that the report will be submitted to the next ordinary meeting of the Standards Committee. If on the other hand the Committee decides not to take the issue any further, no further action will be taken by the Standards Committee.
2 Recommendation
That the Committee adopts the procedure contained within this report whereby individual members of the Committee can request items to be considered.
