COUNTY COUNCIL - CABINET/LEADER - 16 MAY 2002
HAMPSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL'S CORPORATE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY
1. In February 2001 the Leader and the Chief Executive officially launched the County Council's Corporate Sustainable Development Strategy which sought to widen awareness of the sustainable development agenda and encourage the County Council to set an example to the rest of the community by applying the principles of sustainability across all its operations and activities.
2. The Cabinet has reviewed the Strategy's Corporate Action Plan and has been pleased to note that excellent progress has been made against a challenging first year programme.
3. In order to maintain momentum, a set of key actions has been identified for 2002/03 building on the previous year's firm foundation including focusing on the economic, environmental and social value that projects add or any potentially deleterious impact they may have.
4. The Cabinet emphasises the key role of Members in progressing the sustainability agenda and urges them to use their best endeavours to support initiatives and attend Member training programmes as and when they occur.
