COUNCIL MEETING, 16 MAY 2002
REPORT OF THE
EXECUTIVE MEMBER
EDUCATION
PART II
GRANTS TO VOLUNTARY ORGANISATIONS
1 The Executive Member for Education has agreed to make a number of grants to outside organisations and voluntary bodies, whose work supports the school curriculum and the Education Service. Among these are the Hampshire Schools Sports Federation, awarded £7520 for their co-ordinating work in the development of sporting activities and opportunities for school-aged children; and the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers, awarded £10,360 to enable them to continue their valuable advice and practical help for schools on the design of features in school grounds. It has strong links with the Learning through Landscapes project.
2 The Executive Member has also agreed grants to voluntary organisations which support the County Council's work in the area of early years and childcare. The organisations receiving grant are the Hampshire Pre-School Learning Alliance; Voices; the National Childminding Association; the Hampshire Children and Families Forum; The Kids Centre; and the Elizabeth Foundation. All these organisations reflect the priorities contained within the Early Years Development and Childcare Plan and the partnership arrangements now well established with providers in the area of Early Years and Childcare.
3 The Executive Member has also made a large number of grants to organisations whose work supports the Youth Service. Some of these take the form of annual grants whilst others take the form of financial aid towards specific projects. Examples of the former are the detached youth work projects in Winchester and Colden Common; an example of the latter is a grant towards planned building improvements at Totton Youth Centre.
