1. SUMMARY
1.1 This report seeks approval of grants to two carers' centres and an information and advice service for disabled people.
2. APPROVAL OF GRANTS
2.1 Winchester and Andover Carers' Centre - £35,000
Eastleigh and Romsey Carers' Centre - £30,750
The Carers' Centres provide information, advice, counselling and support to carers in their respective areas. The services aim to make contact with carers both in urban and rural locations, to improve the services available to carers in response to their needs, to advocate the needs of carers by seeking to be consulted on health and social policy at a local level and to influence the provision of services for carers. The Centres were previously funded by Policy and Resources grants and will be the subject of formal contracts from 1 April 2003. The grants are recommended to enable the Centres to continue to function during the period leading to the letting of contracts.
2.2 Hampshire Coalition of Disabled People (HCODP) - £5,300
HCOPD promotes the active participation of disabled people in securing the necessary facilities and support to ensure maximum choice through full inclusion in all aspects of society. The Coalition acts to ensure the consideration of the views and aspirations of disabled people. It promotes awareness of the needs of disabled people and campaigns for disabled people's rights. The grant is, in part, a contribution towards the cost of producing a bi-monthly magazine which is an important form of communication for disabled people, offering advice and information about current issues and, in part, a contribution towards the cost of a project focussing on the promotion of independent living.
3. RECOMMENDATION
3.1 That the grants recommended in this report be approved.
