1 Introduction

1.1 49 Cliddesden Road, a former children's home, is in the process of being adapted to provide a base for the local Family Support Team.

1.2 The staff team are currently based at Basingstoke Day Services in temporary facilities and at Sun Alliance House.

2 Furniture and Equipment Requirements

2.1 Work to the unit has recently started and completion is scheduled for July 2002. The following accommodation will require to be furnished and equipped:

    · Conference room

    · Meeting rooms

    · Kitchen

    · Toilets

    · Offices

    · Entrance area

2.2 The furniture used by the children's home was distributed to other children's units in the Basingstoke area where it was suitable for re-use.

3 Financing

3.1 The estimated cost of the furniture and equipment is £60,000 and it is proposed that this will be funded from the Social Services Committee's 2002/2003 Capital Programme block allocation for this purpose.

3.2 The furniture and equipment will be purchased through County Supplies or by competitive tender as appropriate.

Recommendations

1 That this approval be given to the purchase of furniture and equipment in the sum of £60,000 and that this be funded from the furniture and equipment block allocation in the Social Service Committee's 2002/2003 Capital Programme.
