The team of Firesetter interventionists have now dealt with over 400 cases with 200 of them referred during 2001. It is estimated that 96% of referrals have been successfully dealt with and who show no signs of recidivism.
The new YFA group at C54 has now commenced and the 20 group members are progressing through their initial training.
4.3 |
Princes Trust Volunteers
Arrangements are almost complete to take on the Southampton franchise of Princes Trust Volunteers based at St Marys Fire Station. The franchise will be run by HFRS in partnership with the Police and YMCA. Southampton Football Club have also expressed an interest to become involved as part of their community involvement.

Community Support Team
The creation of the Community Support Team is nearing completion. It is anticipated that the team will be operational by May 2002 and will attend incidents across the county where a Community Safety message can be promoted.
4.6 |
Arson Forum | ||
Mr Les Vivian has been appointed to co-ordinate the work of the Arson Forum across the county. We have identified schools and abandoned cars as the main problems to be addressed this year. We are meeting representatives of the 3 education authorities in March to progress initiatives with schools. Also in March we are piloting a project with Southampton City Council to remove abandoned cars and those that residents wish to dispose of. The scheme will be based at Redbridge Hill Fire Station and will address the high number of car fires occurring in the area.
4.7 |
Community Safety Training
A programme of CS training to all wholetime stations is almost two thirds complete and will be finished by June 2002. It is our intention to then tailor the training package for delivery to retained stations during drill evenings and this should commence in Autumn 2002.
4.8 |
Prevention of Accidental Injuries Forum
A report outlining the strategy for the prevention of accidental injuries has been produced in partnership with HFRS and the 3 existing health authorities. The strategy relies on a multi agency approach to the reduction of injuries and will need a funded co-ordination role if it is to be successful. Research is currently underway for funding opportunities.
5 |
COMMUNITY SAFETY TASK FORCE
The CS Task Force has now completed a series of meetings at all wholetime stations and DCFO Bonney questioned the future strategy for the meetings. It was agreed that meetings would take place at wholetime stations with the station presentation becoming more of an audit of local CS. The number of automatic attendees from the CS function will be reduced with reference holders attending only when specific reports are required.
