1. Applications have been received from young people in Hampshire undertaking expeditions, overseas projects, personal development, etc. in accordance with the following details:-
1.1. Kevin Purkiss, Petersfield
Kevin (21) is undertaking a 3 week building community project for a local charity in the Philippines in August this year, costing £1,335. This will include accommodation, travel, insurances, etc. He will be involved in building/ renovating a community centre which will be used as a base for the work of the charity in the city.
Recommendation: £150
1.2. John Newman, Four Marks
John is helping to renovate a community centre in the Philippines with the Charity, Soapbox Humanitarian Aid. The Centre will be used by the poorer in the local area. Total cost: £1,335. This will include accommodation, travel, insurances, etc. John has already managed to raise £1,000.
Recommendation: £150
1.3. Zoe Pearson and Lorraine Wing, Winchester
Zoe and Lorraine have been chosen to participate in Girlguiding UK (Hampshire West) Mexico 2003 between 2 and 16 August next year. Zoe and Lorraine will be involved in carrying out a service project in the Mexican community benefiting local people. Also, they will visit one of the four world guide centres. Each guide is asked to raise £2,000 towards their costs.
Recommendation: £100 each
1.4. Richard Hancock, Fareham
Richard is currently in the Upper Sixth of Portsmouth Grammar School. In January next year he is working in two village schools located on the lower slopes of Mount Kilamanjaro for about 8 months. Richard will be teaching English as a foreign language to primary schools and assisting with sport, music and drama activities. Total cost: £3,200 (for flights, accommodation, insurances, etc.)

1.5. Toni Dennis, Winchester
Toni has been chosen to undertake a Raleigh International expedition in Ghana in October this year. Once there, Toni will be helping to construct schools, latrines and water pumps to improve the lifestyles of Ghanian people.
Total cost: £3,100.
