1. SUMMARY

1.1 This report seeks approval of a grant to KIDS, Young Carers Project.

2. APPROVAL OF GRANT

2.1 KIDS - Young Carers Project - £13,063

The Young Carers Project aims to improve the lives of young carers aged from 5 to 18 years in the Fareham and Gosport Areas. It currently provides support services to 51 young carers to enable them to take time out to be children first and seeks to improve the self esteem of young carers. The Project is operated by KIDS, an organisation which works with children with special needs and had been independently funded for a fixed term which expired at the end of March 2002. The opportunity has been taken to seek tenders County wide for providers to offer support to young carers through an inclusive service which will also retain the local support groups. The new contract is unlikely to be in place until September/October 2002 and the grant is sought to enable the project to continue during the interim period
