REPORT OF THE

Cabinet/Leader

PART II

THE COUNTY COUNCIL'S CORPORATE STRATEGY

1. Members will be familiar with the County Council's Corporate Strategy which identifies common corporate aims and outcomes and seeks to ensure that activities and resources are targeted to achieve those priorities. This corporate vision forms the philosophy that drives everything which the County Council does and provides a framework for service planning and delivery.

2. The Cabinet has now carried out its periodical review of the Strategy in the light of emerging issues, its links with other, developing strategies, and Member and officer comments. The revised version concentrates on the identified priorities and targets in relation to a number of key themes, which replace the "major corporate focus areas" to be found in the previous version. Examples include promoting participation in learning, protecting and caring for vulnerable people, and working together with Hampshire Communities. The emphasis is now more on outcomes than processes as previously. These key themes underpin the Corporate Aims of the Strategy which now number six, and refine and develop the five former Aims. They are as follows:

Aim 1
- Maximising life opportunities

Aim 2
- Stewardship of the environment

Aim 3
- Achieving economic prosperity

Aim 4
- Building strong and safe communities

Aim 5
- Improving services

Aim 6
- Supporting Councillors and staff

3. Final drafting amendments are being made to the revised Strategy document which will then become available on Hantsweb.
