5 MINUTES

The Minutes of the meeting held on 30 April, 2002 were confirmed as a correct record and signed by the Chairman.

6 LOCAL INVESTIGATION AND DETERMINATION OF MISCONDUCT ALLEGATIONS AGAINST COUNCILLORS

The Committee considered the report of the Clerk (Item 3 in the Minute Book) about proposals being brought forward by the Government in a consultation paper regarding the local investigation and determination of misconduct allegations against Councillors.

The Clerk summarised the main proposals which were commented upon by Members. The Committee noted that comments on the consultation paper had been required by 1 July, 2002 and that the Hampshire Police Authority and the County Council had responded jointly in relation to particular provisions as referred to in the report.

RESOLVED:

That the proposals being brought forward by the Government regarding the local investigation and determination of misconduct allegations against Councillors be noted.

7 RULES RELATING TO CHANGES IN HFRA AND COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP

The Committee considered a request by Councillor M.F. Cartwright for a report to the next meeting.

RESOLVED:

That the Clerk prepare a report to the next meeting of the Standards Committee on the present position relating to changes in HFRA and Committee membership and a set of rules that members should follow in the future regarding such changes.
