1. Summary

1.1. Earlier last month, a request for financial assistance was received from Mr and Mrs. Kellett for an urgent payment to enable their son, James, to train in Beijing University and demonstrate Martial Arts at the Chinese National Games in August. Following consultation with the Chairman and the County Treasurer and, in view of the timescales involved, an immediate sum of £500 was agreed to be paid from the County Council's "Financial Assistance to Talented Young People in Sport" budget. The County Council's School Sports Officer is supportive of a grant being made to James towards these costs.

1.2. The following decisions are sought:

(i) That the action of the Chief Executive, in consultation with the Executive Member for Policy and Resources and County Treasurer, in authorising a grant of £800 to James Kellett from the County Council's "Financial Assistance to Talented Young People in Sport" budget be endorsed.


(ii) That a grant be made to young people in Hampshire undertaking overseas projects, expeditions, personal development etc, in the sum shown below:-
