17 EXCLUSION OF THE PRESS AND PUBLIC

RESOLVED:

That, by virtue of paragraph 1 of Part 1 of Schedule 12A of the Local Government Act 1972, the press and public be excluded from the meeting for consideration of the following items.

18 NATIONAL PAY UPDATE

The Committee considered the confidential report of the County Personnel and Training Officer (Item 6 in the Minute Book) which identified the main elements of the recent national pay award, including the terms of reference for the proposed Commission on Pay.

RESOLVED:

That the Committee:

(i) endorses the response to South East Employers regarding the pay proposals, specifically those relating to the Pay Commission, as set out in the report.


(ii) recognises the implications of the proposals on the Council's plans for a local pay and benefits package.


(iii) receives fuller reports on the financial implications of introducing a local pay package once the analysis of role profile benchmarks is finalised and the new hierarchy and relative market position of County Council jobs is known.


(iv) notes the position regarding national settlements and claims for craft employees and Chief Officers.

19 PERFORMANCE TARGETS

The Committee considered the confidential report of the County Personnel and Training Officer (Item 7 in the Minute Book) on performance targets, together with a presentation on the topic by the County Council's consultants, and requested a report back in due course following further work including consultations with the Cabinet [SUMMARY OF MINUTE WHICH CONTAINS CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION]
