27. MINUTES

The Minutes of the meeting held on 22 April 2002 were confirmed and signed as a correct record.

28. CHAIRMAN'S COMMUNICATIONS

The Chairman reported that, in the light of ongoing developments, it had been considered premature to undertake the tour of light rapid transit sites in Northern Europe in October, and accordingly the visits had been postponed. It was now proposed to tour the sites in early summer 2003.

30. EXCLUSION OF THE PRESS AND PUBLIC

RESOLVED:

That, by virtue of paragraphs 7 and 9 of Schedule 12A of the Local Government Act 1972, the press and public be excluded from the meeting for consideration of the following item.

31. SOUTH HAMPSHIRE RAPID TRANSIT 1 - PROGRESS REPORT

The Panel considered the confidential report of the County Surveyor and the City Engineer, Portsmouth Council (Item 6 in the Minute Book) on recent progress on the continued development of the project. The Project Director amplified the report and answered Member questions.



RESOLVED:

(i) That the progress reported be noted and the approach taken by the
Procurement Board to the issues raised be endorsed.

(ii) That the Project Director, the Chief Executive of Hampshire County Council
and the Director of Corporate Services, Portsmouth City Council be
authorised to agree the promoters' agreement on behalf of the County and
City Councils, subject to final consultation with the Chairman and Vice-
Chairman.

32. DATES OF FUTURE EVENTS

RESOLVED:

(i) That the next meeting of the Panel be held in early March 2003 on a date to
be advised.

(ii) That the outstanding visit to light rapid transit sites in North Europe be
held in May/June 2003 on dates to be advised.
