Summary

1.1

The following decisions are sought:

That the Executive Member for Education to agree that the Executive Member for Policy and Resources be advised that the Executive Member for Education supports the project appraisal for the construction of additional teaching accommodation at Calthorpe Park Secondary School at an estimated cost of £1,034,000, excluding fees.

The Executive Member for Policy and Resources to decide that the project appraisal for the construction of additional teaching accommodation at Calthorpe Park Secondary School at an estimated cost of £1,034,000, excluding fees, be approved.

That approval be given to the negotiation of this contract with TSL Ltd.

Reason

2.1

To provide a new drama suite and improved dining facilities to enable the creation of additional basic need places.

2.2

TSL Ltd have recently commenced work on the new Elvetham Heath Primary School which is geographically very close to Calthorpe Park Secondary School. The contractor has the capacity and a demonstratable track record of delivering similar schemes and this project would benefit from early contractor involvement.

Other options considered and rejected

3.1

The need of the school for the facilities in question has been identified as a priority and the works set out in the design project appraisal are considered to be the most appropriate and cost effective way of meeting that need.
