CONNEXIONS Sub Contract

One Stop Shop Development

One Stop Shops

One Stop Shops will be developed in each District Council area.

Initially where possible and practical these will be initiated in partnership with Hampshire County Youth Service Counselling Advice and Information Projects.

They will involve other key partners and agencies where ever possible in line with the report of 14th March to the Local Management Committee and included in the Hampshire Delivery Plan.

Developments to date

District:

Development / progress:

Basingstoke and Deane

Project: Young Peoples Initiative (YPI)

This is a partnership project involving the Borough Council, Health Services and Youth Service and others

Initial discussions have been held with officers of YPI and there is general agreement about working with Connexions.

Accommodation at YPI is inadequate for existing services and larger accommodation is being sought.

Temporary accommodation for Connexions staff could be available at John Hunt School should it be necessary.

A number of different premises are being considered.

East Hampshire

Project:

No project exists at the moment although one is being developed within the district, with the support of the Senior Youth Worker.

There are a number of Youth Service Projects throughout the district which could be opened as "information access points" over and above their current opening. These projects will form part of the access infrastructure.

Eastleigh

Project: Lincs

This project is situated near the centre of Eastleigh and is supported by a multi agency group who are committed to Connexions.

The group were keen to be involved in the Connexions Pilot and would have been had the accommodation been found in time.

A meeting with the Trustees is currently being arranged.

Fareham

Project: X-perience

X-perience is situated in Fareham. It is a purpose built youth centre that has been converted into accommodation for a number of different agencies serving young people including:

    · The Youth Service,

    · Moving On- the Counselling Advice and Information Service

    · Connexions Area Office

Initial discussions have been held with the landlords of the building to develop a Connexions One Stop Shop and staff base. There is a commitment `in principle'.

Discussions have been held with the Youth Service district team to support the project.

Gosport

Project: I-stop

The "I-stop" project was developed as part of the Connexions Pilot and is a multi agency project based in a bungalow on the St Vincent's College site in Gosport

The project is developing well and offers a shop front to a range of agencies.

Hart

Project: The Point

The Point is a Youth Service project based in Fleet offering one stop shop facilities to local people.

Initial discussions suggest that the facilities would not be able to accommodate the Connexions Service but that it could be a front for Services in the District.

A meeting to explore options and develop a way forward is planned.

Havant

Project:

There are two existing projects in the Havant district that provide counselling, advice and information to young people, which are likely to form part of the network of services that make up the Connexions Service in Havant.

A small building situated in the centre of Havant has been identified as being suitable for development as the "hub project". The Youth Service and Connexions have met with the District Council.

It is agreed that Connexions will meet the cost, up to £3,000, for some the investigative and preparatory work including planning consent for change of use. This process to be driven by the District Council using contractors approved by Hampshire County Council.

New Forest

Project: Images

Images is a Youth Centre based in the New Forest at Applemore.

The spread of population throughout the New Forest means there is no easily accessible point for services delivered in the district to be based. Wherever a project is developed it will have to support services delivered in other locations in order to ensure it is available for young people .

There are a number of projects that are involved in aspects of the work and we intend to encourage the adoption of a co-ordinated approach.

As well as being the base for District Co-ordinators Images will provide the Service with a base for the District team and act as a one stop shop.

It is an integral part of the Applemore Recreation Centre which is a short distance from a College, a school, Tescos and Hythe.

Following a meeting with the Recreation Centre manager draft plans have been established to suit both parties.

Rushmoor

Project: Hampshire Youth Bureau

Initial discussions have been held and the Connexions team will be accommodated at the Hampshire Youth Bureau which will also be a delivery point for Connexions Information Services in the District

In addition services will also be delivered at the new premises in Farnborough when it opens in the Autumn

Test Valley

Projects: The House / Youth in Romsey

Initial discussions have been held about working with projects in Test Valley and there is general support for the idea but further discussions need to be held now that matters are progressing.

Winchester

Project: Face to Face

Face to Face, the Youth Service Project based in City Road, will provide the Connexions team in Winchester with a working base with and a "shop front".

The project is small and provides no opportunity to grow.

The matter has been raised with the District Forum and will be the subject of discussion at a future meeting.

In the mean time use of the accommodation is being adjusted to accommodate the staff.

There will also be a desk at Clarendon House which can be accessed should Face to Face be too crowded.
