1. Summary

1.1. The following decision is sought:-

That the grant allocations as set out below, totalling £6,100 be approved:

2. Reasons

2.1. The Youth Panel at its meeting on 12 November 2002 advised the Executive Member for Education to approve grant allocations totalling £6,100.

2.2. The Panel advised the Executive Member for Education to approve a grant of £4,000 to Hampshire Council for Voluntary Youth Service (Y238). Further details are set out in the appendix.

2.3 With regard to the application received from Girl Guiding, Hampshire East (Y239) the Panel advised the Executive Member for Education to approve a grant of £1,100 towards the reception to raise the profiling of Guiding in Hampshire East. This was on the understanding that the grant would be used only towards invitations including printing, envelopes and stamps and for the hire of display boards and materials for mounting displays.

2.4 With regard to the application received from Stanmore Youth Centre (Y240) the Panel advised the Executive Member for Education to approve a grant of £1,000 to provide a computer specialist to encourage and show young people how to create PowerPoint presentations. This was on the understanding that the grant would be used only towards the purchase of a laptop computer with CD writer.

3. Other Options considered and rejected: Not to make these grants. However, it is considered that making these grants constitutes an effective use of resources considering the benefits that they will bring.
