1. Summary

1.1. The following decision is sought:

That the Connexions contract be approved in principle and the County Education Officer be authorised to finalise the detail of the contract on behalf of the County Council.

2. Reasons

2.1. The Youth Panel at its meeting on 12 November 2002 advised the Executive Member for Education to approve the Connexions contract in principle once agreement had been reached on the terms agreed between the two parties, and the County Education Officer be authorised to finalise the detail of the contract on behalf of the County Council.

2.2. The proposals at the moment indicate that the County Council would receive £1.96M to deliver the Connexions contract for South Central Connexions. Further details can be found in the attached report submitted to the Youth Panel.

3. Other Options considered and rejected: Not to participate in the Connexions project. However, continued participation ensures income to the County Council which can be invested in the services to the benefit of users.
