FIREFIGHTERS' PAY DISPUTE

The Authority has fully endorsed the contingency arrangements which the Chief Fire Officer is ready to implement should industrial action be taken by HFRS Firefighters in support of the Fire Brigade Union's 2002 pay claim. The Chief Fire Officer has delegated powers to deal in the best interests of the Authority in such situations and will act, if this is necessary, in consultation with the Chairman, Vice-Chairmen, Leaders of the minority parties, and the Clerk and Treasurer as appropriate, practicable and possible. The first of the proposed strikes has been cancelled as a result of on going negotiations at a national level.
