1. Applications have been received from young people in Hampshire undertaking expeditions, overseas projects, personal development, etc. in accordance with the following details:-

1.1. Elizabeth Ellis, Titchfield

Elizabeth (18) is currently in her GAP year and next March plans to do voluntary work in South America which will involve tasks such as building, teaching and general community-based projects. Total costs : £2,000.

Recommendation : £150

1.2. Claire Culverwell, West End

Claire (17) has been selected to go to one of the four world Guiding Centres called "Our Cabaña" in Mexico City in August next year. There she will help build and furnish schools, teach English to both the local children and adults and run playschemes. Total cost: £2,000.

In June of this year Claire received a grant of £150 from this fund towards her Girlguide trip to Canada.

Recommendation: Nil, in view of previous grant awarded.

1.3. Oliver Phillips, Farnborough

Oliver is a 16 year old student and keen rambler attending Farnborough Sixth Form College. He has been chosen to take part in a World Challenge Expedition to Venezuela between July and August next year, costing £3,000. Once there, he will be taking part in community service to help develop the local village.

Recommendation: £150

1.4. Katy Athersuch, Marchwood

Katy has been selected to participate in the 2003 Nepal Environment programme by the British Charity, Students Partnership Worldwide. The Programme will start on 5 January 2003 and last for five months in schools in and around Kathmandu. Once there, Katy will be focusing on the nationwide issues concerning nutritional anaemia, salt deficiency and vitamin A.

Total cost of the project is £3,000, of which Katy has a £300 shortfall.

Recommendation: £150
