New application

Hampshire Rugby Football Union for Women is a new organisation that is being established to support the development of the women's game in Hampshire.

The Rugby Active Sports programme has provided increased playing opportunities for young women as it is recognised that this is an under represented group and therefore a big gap in the game.

Together with other areas of development, participation in the women's game has increased significantly. So much so, that women have established their governing body in Hampshire and have begun to train and develop Under 14, 16, 18 and adult squads. In addition, they are beginning the process of assessment of players to form representative sides.

This partnership funding would help to sustain the Hampshire Rugby Football Union for Women and enable them to increase participation as well as develop players and coaches.

The uniqueness about this application is that the women and men's governing bodies are collaborating to develop the women's game. The women's game is represented on many of the Hampshire Rugby Football Union's committees so that the game is developed alongside and with the men's game, thereby providing the necessary support and reducing duplication of effort.

Nationally, the Women's Rugby Football Union are supporting this work as a model of good practice.
