1.1 The following decision is sought:
1.2 Approval to the expenditure of £49,000 to fund the furniture and equipment provision for the Solent Mead Day Centre scheme.

2.1 To enable the Solent Mead Day Centre, Lymington to be occupied on completion of work to construct a single storey extension and major improvements to the existing building. The estimated completion date for these works is March 2003.

1 Introduction
1.1 The Executive Member Social Care at the September 2002 meeting approved a building design project appraisal to extend and refurbish the existing Day Centre for older people at the Solent Mead, Lymington.
1.2 The report stated that furniture and equipment requirements associated with those improvements would be reported to a future meeting. The details are set out below.
2 Furniture and equipment requirements
2.1 Works to provide a single storey extension and refurbishment of the existing accommodation to provide an improved day centre commenced in October 2002 and is scheduled for completion in March 2003.
2.2 The following accommodation at the Solent Mead Day Centre will require to be furnished and equipped:
o Entrance / Reception
o Lounge
o Small Lounge
o Training Kitchen
o Dining / Activity Room
o Meeting Room - small
o Office
o Garden Area
2.3 Wherever feasible, existing furniture and equipment will be reused, however, much of this either belongs to Age Concern Hampshire, or will be required to be retained at the Linden Centre for use by Linden House.
3 Financing
3.1 The estimated cost of the furniture and equipment is £49,000 and it is proposed that this be funded from Social Services 2002/2003 Capital Programme block allocation for this purpose.
3.2 The furniture and equipment will be purchased through County Supplies or by competitive tender as appropriate.
Recommendation
1 That approval be given to the purchase of furniture and equipment in the sum of £49,000 and that this be funded from the furniture and equipment block allocation in the Social Services 2002/2003 Capital Programme.
