1 Summary

1.1 To note the responses from the consultations and the views expressed by the Education Policy Review Committee on 21st January 2003.

1.2 To agree the following way forward for the organisation of primary education in Buckskin:

    · Closure of Worting Infant School

    · Closure of Worting Junior School

    · Establishment of a 1.5 form entry (330 place) primary school, with funded nursery education provision, on the Worting Junior School site.

1.3 To approve the publication of public notices:

    That public notices be published, in accordance with Sections 28 and 29 of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998, of the County Council's intention to

    a) close Worting Infant School and Worting Junior School, with effect from 31st August 2004 and

    b) establish a new, 330 place community primary school, with provision for funded nursery education, on the Worting Junior School site with effect from 1st September 2004.

2 Reason

2.1 To establish a strategic plan for primary school and funded nursery education provision which meets the needs of the local community in this area of Basingstoke.

3 Other options considered and rejected

3.1 Status quo i.e. the retention of separate Worting Infant and Worting Junior Schools

5 Dispensation granted by the Standards Committee - not applicable.
