1. Applications have been received from young people in Hampshire undertaking expeditions, overseas projects, personal development, etc. in accordance with the following details:-
1.1. Katie Rawlinson, Chandlers Ford
Katie (18) is undertaking a guide trip to "Our Cabana" Training Centre in Mexico in August this year. Once there she will take part in a series of workshops with other guides and girl scouts from all over the world.
Total approximate cost: £2,000
In June 2000, a grant of £150 was awarded to Katie towards a guiding project in Russia.
Recommendation: Nil, in view of previous grant awarded.
1.2. Matthew Cherry, Holbury
Matthew (14), as part of Hardley School and Sixth Form, is taking part in a Team Challenge Expedition to Brazil in 2004. Once there he will work within a group to assist with local community projects.
Recommendation : £150
1.3. Lloyd Nemec, Holbury
Lloyd, in Year 11 at Hardley School and Sixth Form, is taking part in a Team Challenge Expedition to Brazil in 2004. The trip will involve trekking through the Amazon jungle where he will encounter the local wildlife and scenery
Total cost of trip : £2,925

1.4. Hannah Grayson, Fleet
Hannah (14) is requesting grant aid towards her course fees at the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain in 2002/03. Hannah is one of 150 members chosen by audition from over 600 applicants. During the year, she will be attending residential courses during the Easter and Summer holidays and take part in concerts in Leeds, Manchester, Basingstoke, Birmingham and London.
Total cost: £1,500 to include course fees, accommodation and food.
Recommendation: 150
1.5. Kate Stainforth, Winchester
Kate (18) is taking part in a two-month voluntary placement working with the veterinary and conservation departments of the Shamwari and Santona Game Reserves in South Africa between July and September this year. This project will help with her veterinary work by working on conservation and breeding of threatened species on the reserve; implementing anti-poaching measures; raising awareness of endangered species and helping with the rehabilitation of the bushland. Once she has completed this placement Kate will begin training as a vet.
Total cost is £3,600 which will include accommodation, food, flights, insurances and equipment. Kate has already raised £1,000 and planning various fundraising events.

1.6. James Entwistle, West Wellow
James (18) is undertaking a coral reef conservation project in Honduras with Coral Cays Conservation. The project is to take place between March and May of this year. The information gathered during the stay will be used to help create marine reserves and to advise the local population in how best to preserve the coral reefs. Total cost is £3,500 James had already raised £1,700 for another project in Costa Rica. A food allergy prevented James from taking up this offer and, subsequently this amount cannot be reclaimed.
Recommendation: £150 subject to the remaining funding being in place before the trip in March.
