INTERMEDIATE CARE - OLDER PERSONS HOMES

1 The Executive Member has agreed to proceeding with specific schemes for providing intermediate care facilities at the in-house residential care homes for older people at:-

Copper Beeches, Andover
Emsworth House, Emsworth
Ticehurst, Aldershot
Thurlston House, Fleet
Solent Mead, Lymington
Bishops Waltham House, Bishops Waltham

2 The schemes provide the opportunity to extend the range of services offered at the homes.

3 Intermediate residential care is about providing short-term accommodation (up to a
maximum of six weeks) for older people who require additional support and active
intervention to regain their life skills to enable them to return home. These schemes
will provide:-

· for those who live at home and need that extra intensive support by care
staff, occupational therapists and physiotherapists and other allied health professionals within the residential home to enable them to return home - this is known as "step-up care", and -


· for those people requiring this extra support who live in hospital not
requiring medical intervention but an intensive two to six weeks' intermediate care before returning home - this is known as "step-down" care.
