1. Summary
1.1 This report outlines the progress on the Casualty Reduction Programme and Safer Routes to School.
2. Casualty Reduction Programme
2.1 At the last meeting a report was considered on the 2002/03 casualty reduction programme. The attached appendix shows the list of schemes in this programme updated to give the current position. Details of the proposed 2003/04 programme have not yet been finalised but a provisional list of schemes in Fareham includes the following sites:
(i) A27 outside BAE (dual section north-east of St Margarets Lane Roundabout);
(ii) A27 link between M27 Junction 9 and Segensworth Roundabout;
(iii) Stubbington Lane junction with Bells Lane, Stubbington; and
(iv) Portsdown Road/Skew Road.
The proposed 2003/04 budget allocation county-wide is £1.4 million.
2.2 Good progress is being made on the introduction of further safety cameras through the safety camera partnership with Hampshire Police and other authorities in the Force area. A contract for the fixed cameras has been awarded to Truvelo Limited and these will be installed as soon as possible at the following sites:
(i) B3037 Bishopstoke Road, Eastleigh;
(ii) A35 Totton Causeway, New Forest;
(iii) A32 Gosport Road, Fareham;
(iv) Highlands Road, Fareham; and
(v) A337 Setley, New Forest.
2.3 Grange Road, Gosport was put forward as a fixed camera site, but further analysis of accident data has led to the conclusion that this should instead be a mobile camera route. Analysis has also been undertaken of possible sites for a further bid for additional fixed cameras to be installed in 2003/04 and it is hoped that this will be submitted to the Department for Transport shortly.
3. Safer Routes to School Programme
3.1 There are no schemes in Fareham in the 2002/03 programme or 2003/04 programme.
