1. Summary

1.1 This report outlines the progress on the Casualty Reduction Programme and Safer Routes to School.

2. Casualty Reduction Programme

2.1 At the last meeting a report was considered on the 2002/03 casualty reduction programme. Appendix 1 shows the list of schemes in this programme updated to give the current position. Details of the proposed 2003/04 programme have not yet been finalised but a provisional list of schemes in Havant includes the following sites:

    (i) C428 Emsworth Road/C420 Southleigh Road/Pook Lane, Emsworth;

    (ii) A3023 Havant Road, Hayling Island; and

    (iii) A259 Havant Road/North Street roundabout, Emsworth.

    The proposed 2003/04 budget allocation county-wide is £1.4 million.

2.2 Good progress is being made on the introduction of further safety cameras through the safety camera partnership with Hampshire Police and other authorities in the Force area. A contract for the fixed cameras has been awarded to Truvelo Limited and these will be installed as soon as possible at the following sites:

    (i) B3037 Bishopstoke Road, Eastleigh;

    (ii) A35 Totton Causeway, New Forest;

    (iii) A32 Gosport Road, Fareham;

    (iv) Highlands Road, Fareham; and

    (v) A337 Setley, New Forest.

3. Safer Routes to School Programme

3.1 Appendix 2 lists the schemes in Havant in the 2002/03/04 programme.
