To appoint a Chairman of the meeting constituted under Part A of the agenda.

RECOMMENDATION:

That, by virtue of Paragraph 1 of Part I of Schedule 12A of the Local Government Act 1972, the press and public be excluded from the meeting during consideration of the following item.

3. APPOINTMENT OF INDEPENDENT MEMBERS (Copy herewith)

To consider the recommendations of the Members nominated to interview applicants in respect of the appointment of three Independent Members to Hampshire Police Authority. The interviews were held on 25 February, 2003 and the notes of the meeting are attached.

To consider a report of the Chief Constable showing police and support staff strength and availability against budgeted strength as at 28 February, 2003.

To consider a report of the Chief Constable recommending the establishment of an Independent Visiting Scheme for the Hampshire Constabulary Dog Section.

In view of the current recruitment exercise, to seek a nomination from the Independent Members to replace Mrs. C. Barratt as a deputy on the Chief Officer Appointment Panel.

To appoint Members to replace Mr. M.J. Attenborough-Cox and Mrs. C. Barratt on the Basingstoke and East Hampshire Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships with effect from 1 April, 2003.
