AT A MEETING of the COUNCILLOR AND MAGISTRATES MEMBERS of the HAMPSHIRE POLICE AUTHORITY held at Serles House, Southgate Street, Winchester on 24 March, 2003.

691 APPOINTMENT OF CHAIRMAN

RESOLVED:

That Councillor S.A. Hayes be appointed Chairman for the meeting.

692 EXCLUSION OF THE PRESS AND PUBLIC

RESOLVED:

That, by virtue of Paragraph 1 of Part I of Schedule 12A of the Local Government Act 1972, the press and public be excluded from the meeting during consideration of the following item.

693 APPOINTMENT OF INDEPENDENT MEMBERS

Members considered a confidential note of the meeting of the Panel nominated to interview applicants in respect of the three forthcoming vacancies for Independent Members (Item 3A in the Minute Book).

The Chairman outlined the circumstances which had given rise to one remaining vacancy and to the steps which had been taken to fill that vacancy following the interviews held on 25 February 2003. He indicated that the Independent Selection Panel had met on 17 March to consider the vacancy and had submitted a further long list to the Home Secretary to which a response was still awaited. It was noted that the name of Mr M.J. Attenborough-Cox, whose name had been included on the original long list but who had not been shortlisted by the Home Secretary, had been submitted once more for consideration.

Members noted the position and it was accordingly:-

RESOLVED:

(a) That the following persons be appointed as Independent Members of the Hampshire Police Authority for a four year term with effect from 1 April, 2003:-

Mrs R. Atkinson
Mr N. Singh


(b) That the one remaining vacancy be noted.
