Proposed improvements

    · Improve the Service through the implementation of the existing Hampshire Music Service (HMS) Strategic Plan and the OFSTED action plan.

    · Improve the accommodation facilities for HMS.

    · Improve the efficiency of the audit and selection process for Hampshire Music Service Awards and Ensembles.

Progress in implementing the Improvement Plan

    · All teachers monitored in classroom and performance management has been introduced.

    · Professional development broadened to enhance specialisms.

    · All register data collected, analysed and fed back to each teacher.

    · Four Advanced Skills Teachers appointed to enhance professional development opportunities for the service.

    · Hampshire LEA awarded a Diploma of Merit for the Music Service by the National Music Council, reflecting continuous improvement.

    · 471 schools (target 440) signed up to the Service Level Agreement (SLA).

    · Teacher recruitment strategy revised and implemented to meet demand from schools.

    · Provision to support music for pupils with special educational needs (SEN) has expanded in response to school requests.

    · Three ensemble co-ordinators monitor, report and feed back to enable further development of ensembles.

    · Professional development for award staff provided.

    · Five additional music ensembles established in response to local need (target date July 2004).

    · Increased use of leaflets/brochures to raise awareness of ensembles amongst parents and pupils.

    · Increased opportunities for shared performances by ensembles.

    · Discussions have started to assess the suitability of the former INTECH building as a base for HMS.

    · Working group established and a review undertaken of the existing approaches to auditions for ensembles and awards. A further assessment of the future is being conducted with consultation on any recommendations.

Future Plans

    · New Strategic Plan for 2003-2004 currently in preparation.

    · Pursue provision of an effective, good quality HMS Centre.
