National Benchmarks - Backlog of Condition Works at Schools

The following graph shows the range of Priority 1 (urgent) work in schools across LEAs. The national average Priority 1 work is £91 per pupil, compared with £51 per pupil for the County Council's Schools. The total of Priority 1 work for all LEAs is £754 million. The total Priority 1 work for Council is £7.9m.

The following graph shows the range of Priority 1-3 work (work over 5 years from 2000) in schools across LEAs. The national average Priority 1-3 work is £824 per pupil, compared with £1,343 per pupil for the County Council's Schools. The total Priority 1-3 work for all LEAs is £6.9 billion. The total Priority 1-3 work for the Council is £232.5m.

Priority Definitions:

Priority 1

Urgent work that will prevent immediate closure of premises and/or address an immediate high risk to health and safety of occupants.

Priority 2

Essential work required within 2 years that will prevent serious deterioration of the fabric or services.

Priority 3

Desirable work required within 3 to 5 years that will prevent deterioration to the fabric or services.
