Summary

1.1

The following decisions are sought:

That the Executive Member for Education approves the proposed scheme of work at Crestwood Community School for the construction of a synthetic turf pitch, pitch modifications and enhancements, at an estimated cost of £425,000, excluding fees.

Reason

2.1

The synthetic turf pitch and other facilities form part of a larger scheme comprising: land disposal, new sports hall, changing facilities, drama studio and refurbishment of natural grass pitches, which is dependent upon a successful conclusion of the planning application to Eastleigh Borough Council for the disposal of the surplus land for residential use, and the sale of that land.

2.2

In order to assist the school's continuing use of recreational facilities, it is hoped to provide this element as enabling works in advance of the major sports development as outlined above.

3.1

The need of the school for the facilities in question has been identified as a priority and the works set out in the attached report are considered to be the most appropriate and cost effective way of meeting that need.
