1. Summary

1.1 The following decision is sought: authority to consult with the school community, the local Learning and Skills Council and other interested parties on the closure of the sixth form at Horndean Technology College.

2. Reason

2.1 Consultation is a legal requirement for any local education authority proposing to take the action set out in paragraph 1 above.

3. Other options considered and rejected

3.1 Not closing the sixth form but, instead continuing to run the sixth form in spite of its financial unviability with a view to recruiting higher numbers to the sixth form in future years.

4.1 None.

5. Dispensation granted by the Standards Committee

5.1 Not applicable.
