Groundwork Solent has been working successfully with young people throughout Gosport during the past year. Three youth clubs have been established and young people have had opportunities to engage in a range of sporting activities. The grant would be allocated to the running costs and further development of the youth programme.
Aim and purpose of the organisation
To promote the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment in south east Hampshire and in particular in Borough of Gosport.
To provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure time with the objective of improving the conditions of life for those living in south east Hampshire and in particular in Borough of Gosport.
To advance public education in environmental and conservation matters.

The New Forest and Romsey Mobile Community Project New Forest District
Request for grant aid towards: Amount Requested: £5,000
The Forest Bus, one of the facilities provided by the project, is a mobile unit which provides information and recreational resources for young people living in isolated areas in the area of New Forest District and the Romsey area of Test Valley district.
The grant would be allocated towards the salary and associated costs, including training, of an additional youth worker for the Bus to support the increased use.
Aim and purpose of the organisation
To provide a comprehensive range of facilities especially to those who are isolated and / or vulnerable and who because of social disadvantage, low income, homelessness or unemployment are unable to gain access to opportunities to improve their circumstances.

Request for grant aid towards:
This grant is requested to provide a fund with which HCVYS can provide funding for youth worker training.
HCVYS has traditionally supported its member organisations in the training of youth workers to work with the 13-19 age range. For many of the smaller organisations the funding they receive from HCVYS, although limited, provides valuable opportunities to develop their youth workers and leaders.

Aim and purpose of the organisation
To provide an educational and social outlet for young people in rural communities and young people within urban communities who care for their countryside.
To promote and encourage young people to lead healthy lifestyles through active club programmes.
To ensure members have every opportunity to develop skills in participation, democratic decision-making, communication, teamwork, leadership and awareness of opportunities available.
To provide young people with opportunities to sample activities, experience new challenges and learn new skills through a competitions programme, which enable them to manage feelings and conflicts through participating both as individuals and as part of a team.

This is a valuable youth work organisation, involving young people in decision making at all levels. Currently, the 13 -19 age range account for only 35% of contacts, however there are clear indications that this figure will increase in the coming year to above the required 50%. The Youth Service would like to see the Young Farmers attracting and involving a broader range and larger number of young people, and a focus should be on social inclusion initiatives. I recommend a grant of £18,000.

Off The Record Havant District

The grant will be used to finance revenue costs to enable Off The Record to continue providing an informal, comfortable and friendly place specifically for young people aged 11 - 25to access counselling, information and support services. Off The Record is currently working towards becoming an integral part of the Connexions Service.

Off The Record aims to relieve and prevent suffering to young people aged 11-25 by offering them access to a rang of free and confidential services which encompass information, counselling, crisis support, educational and preventative services, befriending and opportunities for self development.

Emmaus Project Rushmoor District

Request for grant aid towards: Amount Requested: £3,900
The Daylight Project is client centred and client led. The grant would be used to fund 25% of the salary of the Employment Access Worker based at the Daylight Project. The Project has been successful in securing the other 75%. The grant would enable the project to support clients in accessing employment, to help them fulfil their potential and achieve one of the most significant steps towards independence.
Aim and purpose of the organisation
The Daylight Project programme is a progression route, which encourages personal growth and development to enable young people to reach their full potential.
This is achieved by:
_ Encouraging young people to drop in, have a look round and familiarise themselves with the environment.
_ Young people becoming involved, and sustaining their commitment.
_ Moving young people on to either some form of training or employment.

The grant will be used to support the Young Leaders Programme which offers training and support to young women 16 - 18 to become Adult leaders. It will also support Guiders in overseas projects.
Aim and purpose of the organisation
The Guide Association, as part of a worldwide movement, enables girls and young women to fulfil their potential to take an active and responsible role in society through its distinctive, stimulating and enjoyable programme of activities delivered by trained volunteer leaders.
To improve the quality of Guiding, making it available and attractive to more girls in Hampshire north, with increased numbers of adult leaders adequately supported.

Winchester Detached Youth Work Project Winchester District

This organisation was established to respond to the growing number of young people meeting in public open spaces in Winchester City Centre. However in 1997 the organisation went through changes and as a result changed its emphasis to working with young people across the district of Winchester.
The grant would be allocated to support the salaries and associated costs of the youth work team in this organisation.
Aim and purpose of the organisation
The Winchester Detached Youth Work Project aims to provide a service to young people to enable them to fulfil their potential as individuals and members of groups and communities.
A detached youth work team work within the Winchester district responding to the needs of young people by providing information and resources to enable them to make informed decisions on personal, social and political issues.
The project offers young people opportunities, which are designed to be challenging, participative and empowering, which widen their experiences to create a positive self-image and increase their self-esteem.

Winchester Detached Youth Work Project works in partnership with the County Youth Service to deliver work in specific communities such as Weeke and Harestock. It complements the work of the County Youth Service by working in areas of need in which the service does not currently work thereby avoiding duplication of resources.
Winchester Detached Youth Work Project has presented a well supported application with annual report and three year business plan, as well as clear accounts and objectives for 2003/4 which reflect closely the aims and objectives of the County Youth Service. I therefore recommend a grant of £3,300

The grant will be used to support the objectives of the YCHIOW's five year plan which identifies areas of core business and development work.
The money will be allocated specifically to those elements of the plan which address HCYS's priorities, these will include development visits, training, participation work, issue-based work, standards and recognising young people's learning.

Youth Clubs Hampshire and Isle of Wight believes all young people should have access to good quality professional support during their transition from childhood to adulthood. We believe this is the primary function of the clubs and projects that constitute our membership. The Carroll Youth centre is open four evenings a week. It has offered young people a wide range and varied programme that has enabled them to develop their skills, knowledge and activities around a range of issues. This grant has been requested to support the work as well as making sure the building is safe, warm and welcoming to allow youth work to be facilitated effectively

The Carroll Youth Centre promotes activities to benefit the young inhabitants aged 24 and under of Stanmore and the neighbourhood to advance education and to provide activities in the interests of health and social welfare, counselling, recreation and leisure time occupation.

The Source Rushmoor District

The Source is Aldershot's alcohol free social place for young people to meet in the evening. The need for such a place has been highlighted by The Aldershot Regeneration Strategy, Crime and Disorder Audit.
The grant will be used to contribute to the running costs of the project, specifically towards the rent which is £4000 PA.

The Source project aims to help counter the concerns of the public about young people hanging around and the perceived disorder issues this raises, by providing an appropriate venue for them to go to in the evenings.

_ The implementation of the `Hampshire Experience 2003' which will be the second, annual, multi-activity weekend for young people aged between 11 and 15,
_ The new Explorer Scout and Scout Network sections. These have recently been set up for young people between 14 - 18 and 18-25.

The Hampshire Scout council was formed to promote and further the aim of the Scout Association in the County of Hampshire which is to promote the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials, as individuals, as responsible citizens, and as members of their local, national and international communities.
