OFFICER'S COMMENTS |
1. Milford-on-Sea Parish Council |
|
i) Disabled drivers may have difficulty manoeuvring into the space due to the slight bend in the road. |
i) The position for the disabled space was discussed with a representative of a local access group, New Forest Access For All. Although there is a slight bend in the road, this is the closest point to the shopping area and, being at the end of the row of parking spaces, is reasonably easy to access. |
2. Mr P Sleath 69 Carrington Lane Milford-on-Sea |
|
i) The proposed double yellow line protection of the crossing points (in the High Street and Church Hill) will be insufficient to stop drivers blocking the route across the road. |
i) There can be no guarantee of driver compliance. The parking bays are marked either side of the crossing points and the double yellow lines will give added protection. Divers disregarding the markings will be subject to penalty. |
3. Mr W H Robbins 4 High Street Milford-on-Sea |
|
The (2hr) maximum stay in the central parking area at the west end of the village should remain rather than be removed, because: i) the existing restriction (introduced last year) has allowed many residents living in and around the area to be able to park; ii) if the time limit is removed, vehicles will again be left for days or weeks preventing its use by residents/ visitors; iii) a reversion to the longer parking would only be to the benefit of an inconsiderate few; iv) the existing arrangements are fair and equitable; v) many residents would welcome the introduction of car parking charges. |
i) - iv) The existing restrictions were introduced on 17 April 2000, following requests from Milford-on-Sea Parish Council for more short term parking for shopping purposes in the village centre, and encourage greater use of the public car park in Sea Road for longer stay visits. When originally advertised, there was both support and opposition to the introduction of short term parking at the western end of the village. The current proposal to remove the short stay restriction from the central highway car park at the western end of the village, following further representations (but retain the on-street short stay parking in that locality), has been supported by local Members and Milford-on-Sea Parish Council. v) New Forest District Council is currently undertaking a Traffic Management Study, one aim of which is to identify ways of making better use of existing town centre off-street parking space. |
RECOMMENDATION - It is recommended that the Hampshire (Various Roads, Milford on Sea ) (Parking Places and Restriction of Waiting) Order 2002 be implemented as advertised. |
