ALLOCATION OF FUNDING IN THE RECREATION AND HERITAGE FIELD

1. The Executive Member has recently approved support under various headings in the Recreation and Heritage field, these being annual revenue support to community associations, the community buildings fund, support for independent arts organisations, sports coaching and officiating bursary schemes, capital funding for voluntary village halls and community centres, support to independent and voluntary organisations in the museums and archives field and programme partnership funding. A total of £83,000 has been awarded to 13 community associations as revenue support, priority being given to organisations which cover an area of benefit that is disadvantaged or is an area of special need or have few or no facilities. In addition £74,000 has been allocated for improvement works to 25 different village halls and one church. Such grants are given for building repairs, extensions and refurbishments and health and safety issues. Finally in this area, £26,000 has been allocated from the capital budget to the Thorneyhill Community Association project to build a new community building in Bransgore.

2. £720,000 has been allocated to 13 different independent arts organisations covering such aspects as drama, dance, classical music, opera and sculpture whilst £22,000 has been awarded to 7 groups planning to organise arts projects for Hampshire residents with recipients including ArtSway visual arts venue in the New Forest, the Cricklade Theatre at Andover and the Phoenix Arts Centre at Bordon.

3. In the field of sport and physical recreation £1,400 has been allocated to the Hampshire Badminton Association to support the operating budget of the centre which has recently been opened at the Westgate School, Winchester and £3,000 to the Hampshire Playing Fields Association as a one-off grant to help meet the high number of grant applications from local sports clubs and organisations throughout the County. £8,200 has been allocated to 25 talented sports men and women in Hampshire, who are competing, or who have the potential to compete at regional, national and/or international levels in their chosen sports, this being under the sports bursary scheme and 15 sports coaches and officials have received a total of £3,800 under the coaching and officiating bursary scheme.
