Proposed improvements

The key outcomes from the review were:

· to improve equality of access to services, especially by those who are disabled or isolated

· to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of services to public

· to provide better IT access and support for the public

· to evaluate the range of resources and speed of supply

Progress in implementing the Improvement Plan

· People's Network terminals have been installed and are operational in all libraries

· Sunday opening has been piloted at Havant Library

· Hard-to-reach groups, e.g. male teenagers, have been targeted by such successful schemes as Dads and Lads

· Easy Returns Scheme has been introduced at all static libraries

· Improvements have been made to enable remote access to library services, e.g. the library website now offers the library catalogue, bookshop and the facility to renew and reserve library stock

Future Plans

· Library buildings and facilities are being improved and expanded, in line with Discovery Centre principles

· The mobile library service is to be reviewed and updated

· The Library and Information Service is being restructured and modernised to meet the needs of the 21st Century.
