CLOSURE AND ESTABLISHMENT OF NEW PRIMARY SCHOOL

1. Notice is hereby given, in accordance with sections 28 and 29 of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998, that Hampshire County Council, being the Local Education Authority, intends:

(a) to discontinue Worting Infant School, in Old Kempshott Lane, Basingstoke and Worting Junior School, in Chiltern Way, Basingstoke, with effect from 31 August 2004; and

(b) to establish a new community primary school, to cater for 330 boys and girls, irrespective of ability, aged 4 - 11, in the premises of Worting Junior School, with effect from 1 September 2004.

2. In order to achieve these intentions it is proposed that

(a) Worting Infant and Junior Schools will cease to be organised as separate schools after the end of the Summer Term 2004. Pupils in attendance at these schools at that time, who are not due to transfer to secondary school, will be accommodated in the new primary school, based in the current Worting Junior School premises, from the start of the Autumn Term 2004. Applications for admission to alternative schools will be considered, subject to the availability of places.

(b) The primary school to be established in the premises of Worting Junior School will serve the area currently served by Worting Infant and Junior Schools. The Local Education Authority will be the admission authority for the school. In the school year 2004/05, and subsequent school years, the school will admit 45 pupils at the age of 4+. Pupils will be admitted to the school in accordance with the arrangements that are published each year prior to the date on which applications for admission must be made. Transport to the school will be provided for pupils who qualify in accordance with the Local Education Authority's published policy.

3. Any person may object to these proposals. Objections should be in writing and addressed to The Chief Executive (Reference "HW"), Hampshire County Council, The Castle, Winchester, Hampshire SO23 8UJ, to arrive no later than two months after the date of publication of this notice. Any objections received, and not subsequently withdrawn in writing, together with the Local Education Authority's observations on them, will be submitted to the School Organisation Committee for Hampshire within one month after the closing date for objections.

Dated: 31 January 2003 Peter C B Robertson

                  Chief Executive

This will be located in the present Worting Junior School buildings, suitably extended, once building work is completed. In addition to provision for children of statutory school age, facilities will be made available for funded nursery education provision and/or day care for pre-school children.
