Summary

1.1

The following decisions are sought:

1.2

That the Executive Member for Education advises the Executive Member for

Policy and Resources that approval be given to:

    1. The design project appraisals for the construction of a Sports Hall, associated changing/toilet and ancillary accommodation at Alderman Quilley Secondary School, Hounsdown Secondary School and Test Valley Secondary School at an estimated cost of £1,272,000, £1,259,000 and £1,732,000 respectively (excluding fees).

    2. The revised funding arrangements at Fernhill School.

    3. The enabling works at Test Valley School, ie construction of the lower access road and the bulk chalk excavation being completed prior to NOF approval, with the former being funded from the Education Capital programme.

Reason

2.1

To provide a robust and practical sports hall to create a step change in school use. The new halls are expected to generate an expansion of the existing programme of community lettings outside school hours. To achieve economies of scale through standardisation, repetition and common supply chains.

Other options considered and rejected

3.1

The need of the school for the facilities in question has been identified as a priority and the works set out in the design project appraisal are considered to be the most appropriate and cost-effective way of meeting that need.
