Summary

1.1

The following decision is sought:

That the Executive Member for Education advises the Executive Member for Policy and Resources that the project appraisal for an Early Years Centre at Sharps Copse Primary and Nursery School at an estimated cost of up to £437,000, excluding fees, be approved.

Reason

2.1

This project has recently been approved through the Neighbourhood Nursery Initiative. The proposed Early Years Centre would be located within existing accommodation vacated by Sharps Copse Infant School following amalgamation into one Primary School in the Junior building and would provide necessary day care facilities in the area for children up to the age of five years.

Other options considered and rejected

3.1

The need for the facilities in question has been identified as a priority and the works set out in the design project appraisal are considered to be the most appropriate and cost effective way of meeting that need.
