CAPITAL SUPPORT FOR THE LEIGH PARK CRAFTS INITIATIVE

1. The Leigh Park Crafts Initiative is a new facility planned for a site next to the community centre in Leigh Park, Havant which will comprise a series of workshops for crafts people and two training spaces which will be the focus of a varied programme of training activities for the local community, crafts people and arts professionals. The project is one element of the larger ambitions of the MOMC Project which aims to establish a world class facility for contemporary crafts and a crafts development agency for the south east region. The project has been established by the County Council in partnership with the Arts Council England, South East & Havant Borough Council. The overall cost of the scheme will be £1.32 million and a contribution of £40,000 from the County Council would enable the scheme to be realised. Any additional funding secured through further avenues of fund raising would enable a larger facility to be built.

2. The Executive Member has accordingly approved the making of a capital allocation of £40,000 towards the initiative from the Recreation & Heritage Capital Programme 2004 /05.
