Introduction |
1.1 |
Bay House Foundation School is a large Secondary school and sixth form for pupils aged 11 to 18. |
1.2 |
Due to a forecast increase in pupil numbers attending the school from September 2004, the school requires an additional 89 places. An allocation of £556,000, excluding fees, is included in the Education Committee's 2003/04 Capital Programme for this provision. |
1.3 |
The Director of Property, Business and Regulatory Services has progressed the design which combines all elements of the work and the purpose of this report is to outline the proposals to Members and seek approval to the attached design project appraisal at an estimated cost of up to £556,000, excluding fees. |
2. |
Scope of the Works |
2.1 |
It is proposed to provide sixth form facilities in a single block, thereby freeing up space in the main school building to provide the additional four classrooms necessary to meet the forecast increase in roll numbers. |
2.2 |
The proposed new block will provide a common room, quiet study/ICT room and sixth form office in a two-storey masonry structure with a pitched roof, linked to the existing SCOLA building by a glazed link housing the main circulation area and ancillary accommodation. |
2.3 |
One of the principal requirements within the proposed new sixth form building is a quiet study centre; the siting of this new block has been chosen for its peripheral location at the edge of the school site. |
3. |
Funding and Timing |
3.1 |
Funding of £556,000, excluding fees, has been allocated in the Education Committee's 2003/04 Capital Programme. |
3.2 |
It is anticipated that tenders will be invited during September 2003 and works will commence on site during January 2004 and be completed during August 2004 ready for the start of the new term in September 2004. |
