Personal Development Grants

Report of the Chief Executive

1. Applications have been received from young people in Hampshire undertaking expeditions, overseas projects, personal development, etc. in accordance with the following details:-

1.1. Peter Rawlinson, Chandlers Ford

Peter is a 14 year old Explorer Scout from Chandlers Ford who has been given the opportunity to represent Hampshire in an international expedition to Belize, which lasts for five weeks over the Christmas holidays. Once there, he will continue Hampshire Scout Expedition's building programme by providing another accommodation block for the local community. Peter is one of 16 scouts chosen from Hampshire each having to raise £1,800.

      Several grants have been made to scouts who are undertaking this trip.

      Recommendation: £150

1.2. Tim Way, Fleet

      Tim is currently a student at the University of Warwick but is a resident of Fleet. In the summer he has chosen to take part in a one-month turtle conservation project in Nicaragua, which will include training and providing environmental education to the local communities to help develop alternatives to the turtle population growth programme. The cost of the project is £1,500 and Tim has applied for grants totalling £1,000.

      Recommendation: £150

1.3. Ashley Ryder, Winchester

      Ashley is taking part in a Youth Exchange Programme to Hungary/Germany between 22 and 30 July 2003. He will be involved in planning the programme, raising money and deciding how to run the exchange. Ashley will also be exploring environmental issues as well as taking part in a democracy workshop and a range of other activities. In view of the timescale involved an urgent grant of £200 was awarded to Ashley towards his costs, which include accommodation, etc.

      Recommendation: £200 (already paid)
