1.1 |
Fordingbridge Infant School is located on a shared site with Fordingbridge Junior School, at Penny's Lane, Fordingbridge. There are currently 160 pupils (4-7 years) on roll. The main school building, of traditional design, was erected in the 1970's with a classroom extension being constructed in 1994. |
1.2 |
The total cost of the scheme, to replace one double temporary classroom in very poor condition with permanent accommodation as part of the Education Department's NDS Modernisation programme, is £524,000, excluding fees. |

The Director of Property, Business and Regulatory Services has progressed the design of the proposed additional accommodation and the purpose of the report is to outline the design proposals and seek approval to the attached design project appraisal. |

Scope of the Works |

2.1 |
The proposed extension will provide two new classroom spaces to replace a double temporary building currently being used, a music room, library and IT area. The extension has been positioned away from the boundary adjacent to housing and overlooks an area of field to the rear. |

2.2 |
Landscape works associated with this scheme include a new paved area immediately outside the new classrooms with a new path to the rear linking the existing hall to the new classroom wing. Some new planting is proposed around the new building. |

3. |
Funding and Timing |
3.1 |
An allocation of £524,000, excluding fees, has been made in the Education Committee's 2003/04 Capital Programme (Modernisation funding). A sum of £42,000 will be made available from the school's devolved capital allocation. |

3.2 |
Subject to the necessary approvals it is anticipated that tenders will be invited during December 2003 and work will commence on site during February 2004 and be completed during August 2004. |

Recommendation |

That the Buildings Land and Contracts Panel advise the Executive Member for Policy and Resources that the design project appraisal be approved. |
