Whitewater Primary School, Hook

Summary

1.1

Whitewater Primary School is located in Rotherwick near Hook. There are currently 133 pupils (4-11 years) on roll. The original school building is of traditional construction, with extensions being added in 1981 and throughout the 1990's. The school has no hall and it is therefore proposed to provide a new hall to the rear of the site, behind existing school buildings.

The total cost of the scheme to provide a new hall is £411,000, excluding fees. An allocation of £351,000, excluding fees, has been made from Education's 2004/05 Capital Programme NDS Modernisation fund, with a School contribution of £35,000, additional transfers of £2,000, a local business contribution of £21,000, excluding fees and a contribution from the Ecclesiastical Trust of £2,000.

The Director of Property, Business and Regulatory Services has progressed the design of the proposed additional accommodation and the purpose of this report is to outline the design proposals and seek approval to the attached design project appraisal.

Scope of the Works

2.1

It is proposed to provide a new multi-purpose hall to be used as a dance/music area, assembly area, dining area and for gym activities. The existing school hall area will be refurbished to provide an IT area.

2.2

Landscaping proposals associated with this scheme include paving to the new canopy area, an external timber deck to the new hall and grassed areas around the new hall.

Funding and Timing

3.1

An allocation of £351,000, excluding fees, has been made from Education's 2004/05 Capital Programme NDS Modernisation fund, with a School contribution of £35,000, additional transfers of £2,000, a local business contribution of £21,000, excluding fees and a contribution from the Ecclesiastical Trust of £2,000.

3.2

Subject to the necessary approvals it is anticipated that tenders will be invited during February 2004, work will commence on site during April 2004 and be completed during November 2004.

Recommendation

That the Executive Member for Education approves the design project appraisal for Whitewater Primary School, Hook.
